Supporting our Community Volunteers

We take pride in our local communities and appreciate the volunteers that work tirelessly to support them. Superior Engineering was proud to support this year’s Annual Volunteer Award Ceremony hosted by Hammond Mayor Thomas M. McDermott Jr., and its Department of Community Development. This enormous appreciation breakfast celebrates the dedication of over 600 community volunteers. Our own Steve Vernengo, Greg Adams, Tamara Arnold and Annie Falaschetti were invited guests to the breakfast. It was a way of expressing appreciation and to honor the volunteers that give so much of their time and lives to improve the quality of life for all residents of the City of Hammond.

Superior Tailgate Party

As the temperature drops and our favorite teams battle it out, it’s the perfect time for a tailgate party! We all toted our favorite jerseys and hit the parking lot for some food and fun. Speculation ran rampant and opinions varied on what teams would take it all. We all look forward to the winter sporting season and regardless of who comes out on top, our team at Superior will always be number one!

S/E Supports PMI Calumet

As a provider of professional engineering services, we believe that investing in the future work force is our responsibility. Superior Engineering recently sponsored and participated in the Annual Professional Development Day event for the PMI Calumet Chapter, held at the NiSource headquarters in Merrillville, IN. At the event, members were presented with relevant topics that include ethics, change management, community outreach and adaptable leadership. Overall, it was a very productive event and we were pleased to be involved.

The Project Management Institute (PMI) is the leading worldwide non-profit association recognized for establishing project management standards of excellence.

As the local Indiana Chapter, their focus is on helping individuals improve their skills in managing projects. Some of the services they offer as a regional Chapter include monthly chapter meetings, networking opportunities, PMP Certification study groups, and project manager mentoring. For more information, visit the PMI Calumet website.

S/E Hosts Session at AIST Career Fair

The Association for Iron and Steel (AIST) facilitates a High School Career Fair each year for students that are interested in Engineering. Avariety of local employers participate and students are given the opportunity to attend workshops that cover various disciplines of the industry.

Superior Engineering participates each year by conducting a workshop at the career fair. For the past several years, Steve Vernengo’s mechanical engineering seminar is a favorite of students. During the workshop, Steve provides insight into why he chose this field and outlines the responsibilities of a mechanical engineer. The session concludes with a competitive project in which teams are challenged to design and build an airplane from a Styrofoam plate. While the team with the longest flight is awarded a prize, it’s the bragging rights each student wants to leave with.

This year’s career fair was another tremendous success and we look forward to participating for years to come!

Trine University Career Fair

Superior Engineering attended the Fall Engineering and Technology Career Fair at Trine University. It was an excellent event in which our staff was able to interact with students looking for internships and full-time employment after graduation. It is always exciting to see the passion and excitement of students and we feel privileged to assist them in their journey to becoming young professionals.
