At Superior Engineering (S/E), we take environmental regulations seriously. When a Midwest steel producer needed assistance with emissions monitoring, we were called to assist in the process.
For compliance with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), a steel mill must verify their boiler gas fuel flow monitoring systems to assess the accuracy of their existing Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS). Because maintenance must be completed annually on every boiler, S/E was able to inspect and measure various fuel flow monitoring systems during this down period. This information was then analyzed to determine whether or not the fuel metering systems were in compliance with IDEM. A detailed report of the findings, with supporting calculations, was then issued for each boiler.
What appeared to be a seemingly small project actually carried significant implications. Environmental regulations are not only crucial to us locally, but to everyone who inhabits this planet.
