Construction Management for Local Schools

Supporting our clients in varied engineering roles has always been a hallmark of the type of professional services we provide. Frequently this means providing resources where a specific need or shortage exists within our clients staffing or internal resource availability.

Superior Engineering (S/E) provided construction management services at the request of a large School Corporation in Northern Indiana. This role required technical expertise in Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) disciplines, in addition to construction management services. The project also required managing multiple construction sites throughout the school corporation. The primary responsibility was to assure the school board that the work being performed by the contractors was following the agreed contracts, meeting the schedule and cost milestones for each location, while performing their work in accordance with the applicable codes, specifications and contract drawings.

Project tasks included approving/rejecting change orders, making sure the contractors were proceeding on schedule, reviewing insurance and commercial contracts, reviewing submittals and RFI’s, inspections, accessing budgets, cost control activities and confirming that the work was being done in a professional manner.

Using the resources of S/E, the client experienced tangible cost savings and improved performance in the execution of work at each school location. A side benefit was that through S/E’s efforts, resources were freed up for the client to address other capital requirements that had previously been neglected. Each project was completed successfully, and S/E was pleased to support our client and provide services efficiently, while seamlessly becoming an integral part of their team.
