Reliability and efficiency are key components in the cold mill process. When a large Midwest steel supplier approached Superior Engineering with their frustrations, we were pleased to prepare and implement a comprehensive solution.
S/E was asked to investigate (3) separate cold mill stands with the goal to reduce downtime and increase productivity. One key finding was to implement an in-line, auto-backflush and self-cleaning filtration of the cold mill rolling oil solution. This required new pumps + relocations, new filters + housing foundations, the installation of new pipe routings, piping, and wiring.
In additions to detailed construction bid packages and technical design specifications, S/E supported the project through these tasks:
- Field investigation and field survey
- 3D modeling of all large bore piping
- Spool drawings
- Stress analysis for piping
- Project P&ID’s
- Pipe support and platform drawings
- Overhead trolley modifications
- Foundation drawings
- Electrical and MCC drawings
- Risk assessment analysis
- Scheduling services
Because of the multi-discipline expertise that S/E offers, our client was able to rely on a single engineering firm to see the entire project through to completion. This peace of mind paired with our complete project management made for pleasant experience and successful solution.
