Infrastructure Upgrade for Local School System

Superior Engineering (S/E) was asked to upgrade the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems for (3) separate schools in the NWI School District.

S/E was responsible for preparing the construction documents, equipment specifications, and assisting with procurement and construction support for this project. The first stage was investigative, working with the school district to determine cost effective solutions in line with their budget constraints. Teamwork, coupled with problem solving and value-added solutions, was a fundamental focus for this stage. A load and lighting study were performed, along with a vent study. The second stage, project execution, closely followed the American Institute of Architects (AIA) format and procedures.

New LED lighting plans were developed, covering both outside and inside lighting requirements for function and security. Plumbing systems and plans were re-configured to eliminate operational issues. The HVAC system was designed to improve classroom air-quality and humidity issues. New rooftop units were incorporated along with additional flow control devices.

S/E also completed the Application for Construction Design Release (ACDR) package along with the required Professional Engineer (PE) seal as required by state and local regulating agencies.

The engineering work required meeting a six-week schedule.
