Superior Engineering (S/E) was asked to complete a major electrical upgrade for the laboratory of a leading Big Ten university at its Midwest campus. The objective of the project was to improve safety, reliability, and electrical capacity for the campus.
This $5M utility project was completed in multiple phases over an eight-year duration and covered both detailed design engineering and construction support. Extensive coordination between existing operating facilities and new construction was a key ingredient to the successful execution of this project. S/E was responsible for the analysis, design, technical specifications, and selection of the equipment along with the detailed drawings necessary to install these work packages.
Equipment and project scope included new transformers, switchgear, panelboards, emergency generator, electrical feeders, grounding, and electrical underground vault modifications complete with short circuit analysis and arc flash calculations. Dovetailing into this sequence was the extensive demolition of existing equipment, electrical feeders, and utility piping relocation.
The project was successfully commissioned on time and on budget.
