Purdue University – Commercialization and Manufacturing Excellence Center

Superior Engineering (S/E) recently joined Purdue University in celebrating the grand opening of their new Commercialization and Manufacturing Excellence Center. Located just a few blocks of Purdue’s Calumet Campus, the new center will serve local businesses and entrepreneurs as a facility to train employees and develop new business solutions.

S/E played a key role in the development of the new Commercialization and Manufacturing Excellence Center and provided the following services:

• Initial site assessment and cost analysis

• Preliminary designs and floorplans

• Phase 1 – Infrastructure Build-out (involved upgrading the power and new transformer, exterior repairs and remodeling, demolition, fire protection and utility tie-ins, and build-out of service area and restrooms [~ 3,000 sq-ft])

• Phase 2 – Interior Build-out (involved ~10,000 sq-ft of manufacturing labs, offices, conference rooms, and corridor)

• Phase 3 – Interior Build-out (involved ~5,000 sq-ft of commercialization and manufacturing labs, and WJOB radio station)

• In addition to the architecture and engineering services, S/E handled all state and payment inspection releases, construction cost estimates, construction documents, and construction bidding. Also included bid evaluations, construction contract administration, construction submittals, on-site construction inspections, and final punch-out list.

We are very proud of the new center at Purdue Calumet and anticipate the positive impact it will have on the economy of Northwest Indiana.

 

Superior Recognized for Safety Performance

logoThe Three Rivers Manufacturers’ Association (TRMA) Board of Directors has announced that Superior Engineering will be recognized for its safety performance while working at TRMA facilities in 2014. S/E was awarded the Meritorious Performance and Gold Awards.

TRMA established an awards program to recognize the safety performance of contractor companies working at member company sites. This is the 21st year TRMA have been recognizing companies that achieve excellence in safety performance.

The safety of ALL employees is paramount in everything we do. S/E is very proud of our staff and their ongoing commitment to safety.

Thomas J. Gyure Appointed General Manager of Superior Engineering

The Directors of the S\TEC Group Inc. (S\TEC) are pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas J. Gyure as General Manager of Superior Engineering, LLC, and Superior Engineering-Illinois, LLC.

As General Manager, Mr. Gyure is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the companies, with a focus toward continuing the growth of Superior Engineering. “Superior Engineering is positioning itself to stay ahead of the curve as the Midwest engineering market demands shift. We have become a respected partner, known for delivering quality-engineered solutions to our valued clientele for more than 50 years. We plan to continue our growth by staying true to those core values, while stretching our boundaries and expanding our reach,” stated Gyure.

Mr. Gyure joined Superior Engineering, LLC in 2006 as a Senior Project Manager, recently being a Senior Manager of Projects. Prior to joining the firm, his 25 years in the industry includes work at Inland Steel Company and Triumph Industries, holding leadership roles in the engineering and operating departments. His responsibilities spanned a wide spectrum, from project development and management, hands-on technical development, budget control and project team leadership to full P&L responsibilities for multi-plant operations.

Tom earned his BSME from Tri-State University (now Trine) and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Association for Iron and Steel Technology, and Pi Tau Sigma and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Societies.

Established in 1962, Superior Engineering existed primarily to service the industrial Midwest. At that time, the bulk of Superior’s business resided in the prominent steel manufacturing industry, with occasional machine design, institutional, and oil refining work. Since then, it has grown and branched out into new fields, taken on new challenges, and established major clients nationwide.
